3. Anonymous Usage

SpotCast is designed to work without requiring personal identification. We use anonymous device identifiers to provide a personalized experience without collecting names, email addresses, or other personally identifiable information. You can use SpotCast without creating an account.

4. Location Data

Location data is essential for the core functionality of SpotCast. We use your GPS coordinates to determine which audio stories are nearby and to update the playback queue as you move. The app may request background location access (“Always”) so that the queue continues to update with the nearest stories even when the screen is locked. Location data is:

  • Used to calculate proximity to story locations and reorder the playback queue
  • Updated in the background when the app is playing audio, to ensure the next story is the closest one
  • Not stored permanently on our servers — only the most recent position is kept temporarily in your device profile
  • Never shared with third parties for advertising or tracking purposes
  • You can revoke location access at any time in your device settings

5. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, hosted in the European Union (eu-west-1 region), in compliance with GDPR regulations. We use industry-standard encryption and security measures to protect your information.

6. Third-Party Services

SpotCast uses the following third-party services:

  • Supabase: Database and authentication (EU servers)
  • AWS CloudFront: Audio content delivery (EU region)
  • Google Analytics: Anonymous usage statistics
  • OpenStreetMap: Map tiles and geolocation services

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the data we have about your device profile
  • Request deletion of all your data
  • Opt out of location tracking at any time
  • Disable analytics tracking in your browser settings

8. Children’s Privacy

SpotCast is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us to have it removed.
